Formally, you need the Mittlere Reife (intermediate school leaving certificate) or the German Abitur (high school leaving certificate). For X-ERGO, your motivation is key. What’s your reason for wanting to become an occupational therapist? The other formalities are a medical certificate (from the family doctor) and a simple police clearance certificate.
The state of Rhineland-Palatinate has decided to waive all tuition fees for vocational training programs in the healthcare sector. Accordingly, X-ERGO does not charge tuition fees to its students.
At X-ERGO, the theoretical and practical aspects of the training program are taught during the first two years. Clinical training with patients takes place in the third year. Instruction during the first two years of training is action-oriented. This means that there are no separate subjects, but rather different contexts in which the learning content is taught in an action-oriented manner. Thus, each context combines both the relevant theory and the relevant practical skills.
X-ERGO is well-prepared for hybrid learning. This will involve a combination of distance and in-person instruction. In our view, both forms of instruction have their merits and respective advantages. At X-ERGO, these are combined in a way that achieves our goals. Last year, we were able to test this mix of teaching formats with two days of distance learning and three days of in-person instruction per week.

At X-ERGO, midterm exams are held regularly before the Christmas, Easter, and summer breaks. Each midterm exam consists of an oral, practical, and written component.
Hands-on training with patients takes place at X-ERGO’s official training partners. These are basically available as deployment sites. If you have a special institution as a desired location, you can propose it as an official training partner. This proposal will then be reviewed by the school administration.
The program is a full-time course of study and lasts a total of three years. We begin each year on October 1. The program culminates in the state examination to become a “State-Certified Occupational Therapist.”
We support you in every way. Through our unique, cross-grade-level club system and regular one-on-one feedback, you’ll not only gain subject-specific knowledge but also develop into a confident individual who takes initiative rather than just reacting.
As the only occupational therapy school in Germany, we incorporate business knowledge into our curriculum. This provides you with the best possible preparation for identifying opportunities within the dynamic healthcare system and, in the future, perhaps even taking on leadership roles at the executive level.
The modern healthcare system is complex. We’ll equip you with the business knowledge you need so that you can not only treat patients but also understand administrative processes, manage medical practices, and lead projects independently.
At X-ERGO, interprofessional collaboration is a top priority. From the very beginning, you’ll learn to work closely with other qualified professionals to ensure the best possible care for your patients.
This is the core of our program for your network: Throughout all three years of the program, you’ll collaborate with students from other grades on specific topics. Each team is supported by a mentor. This way, you’ll learn from the very beginning how to take on responsibility and build professional connections.
We place equal emphasis on professional expertise and your personal maturity. Through regular one-on-one feedback and reflection sessions, you will learn to align your self-perception with how others see you. Our goal is for you to graduate as a confident, self-reflective therapist.
We help you set clear goals, both as an individual and as a group. This systematic approach to goal-setting keeps you motivated day after day and prepares you to successfully complete projects in your future career.
There are many different career paths available to you: from hospitals and rehabilitation centers to outpatient clinics, integrative preschools, and counseling centers. Occupational therapists are in high demand and enjoy job security.
Thanks to our central location and more than 90 official training partners in the immediate vicinity, we offer you an extremely diverse program. You’ll benefit from easy access to top-tier institutions and gain valuable hands-on experience right on site.
