Your training objective is derived from
The Act on the Occupation of Occupational Therapists (Occupational Therapy Act - ErgThG) of May 25, 1976, last amended on 12.12.2023
The Training and Examination Ordinance for Occupational Therapists (Ergotherapeuten-Ausbildungs- und Prüfungsverordnung - ErgThAPrV) August 2, 1999, last amended on June 7, 2023
The training guidelines for state-recognized occupational therapy schools in NRW from October 2007
The training objective of occupational therapy in Germany is set out in the law governing the profession of occupational therapist (Ergotherapeutengesetz - ErgThG) and in the training and examination regulations for occupational therapists (ErgThAPrV)
In particular, the training is designed to enable participants to:
To treat, counsel, instruct as well as train individuals in their respective settings, the associated form of care and the ability to cooperate & communicate intra- and inter-professionally.
Throughout your training, there is a constant focus on exploring your own identity as a future occupational therapist and as a student in a healthcare profession.
You will be prepared for employment and self-employment. After completing your training, you may work in hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, long-term care facilities, psychiatric facilities, corporate wellness programs, early intervention centers, and social pediatric centers, as well as in diagnostic and assessment settings. With your presence, your commitment and your willingness to learn, you make an essential contribution to the success of the learning process.
Here you can start directly after your training:
As a therapist, this is also where you come in:
Formally, you need the Mittlere Reife (intermediate school leaving certificate) or the German Abitur (high school leaving certificate). For X-ERGO, your motivation is key. What’s your reason for wanting to become an occupational therapist? The other formalities are a medical certificate (from the family doctor) and a simple police clearance certificate.
The state of Rhineland-Palatinate has decided to waive all tuition fees for vocational training programs in the healthcare sector. Accordingly, X-ERGO does not charge tuition fees to its students.
At X-ERGO, the theoretical and practical components of the training program are taught during the first two years of the program. Practical training on patients takes place in the third year of training. Teaching in the first two years of training is action-oriented. This means that there are no different subjects, but different contexts in which the learning content is taught in an action-oriented manner. Thus, in each context, both relevant theory and relevant subject practice are combined.
X-ERGO is well-prepared for hybrid learning. It will come down to a combination of distance and face-to-face instruction. In our eyes, both forms of teaching have their justification and respective advantage. X-ERGO combines these elements in a way that achieves the desired results. Last year, we were already able to test this mix of teaching methods with two days of distance and three days of face-to-face teaching per week.

At X-ERGO, midterm exams are held regularly before the Christmas, Easter, and summer breaks. The intermediate examinations each consist of an oral, practical and written part.
The practical training on the patient takes place at the official training partners of X-ERGO. These are basically available as deployment sites. If you have a special institution as a desired location, you can propose it as an official training partner. This proposal will then be reviewed by the school administration.
